Rock In A Box OST (Vol. 1)

--a brief history of the game--

Man, this OST has quite the story behind it, but I'll try to summarize it to the best of my abilities. So I made a game, a really bad game back in like late 2021, it was for some dumb competition (game jam?) centered around the theme of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Fast forward like 2 years, And i decided to update the game with an escape sequence (Inspired by Pizza tower). I made a handful of new levels, and we decided om the name "Rock In A Box". My friend Bup_up, inspired by this dumpster fire of a game, decided to remake the entire thing from the ground up in Gamemaker 8.2, and the rest is history! He worked tirelessly on the game, and I made the shitty music for it!

--The Soundtrack--

Ok now to actually talk about the OST. A lot of the songs are intentionally a bit rough around the edges, as I like the style of "rough midi music". This is where my style got it's footing and truly started to form into something comprehensible, something that the average joe would consider to be "music". I used the Touhou.sf2 for almost every instrument you hear (i bet other VGM musicians recognized it immediately), due to its high quality samples, and great versatility for many genres!

--The RIAB Leitmotif--

I consider "UNDERFLOW" to be the game's main theme, since its leitmotif is scattered across the soundtrack, and also because it was one of the first songs i started working on for the game 2 years prior! (i legit have like 7 beta versions of underflow in my project folder). But since this was my first time making a (connected) soundtrack for something, it was fun linking all the songs together with underflow's melody.

--shoutouts to Bup_up--

I often joke about how Bup stole my game, and made a better version of it to show me how shit the OG game was. All of this may be true... HOWEVER, I consider the RIAB soundtrack to STILL be one of my best muscial accomplishments of all time, as it let me grow as an artist so much, and made me the musician I am today! So shoutouts to Bup_up for stealing my game!
